Power Outage Info

When you call Grundy County REC to report a power outage or any damage to power lines. We need your farm or location number not your address. You can find your farm or location number on your electric bill under the heading meter number or on your meter pole.

We begin our restoration at the point where the power feeds into Grundy County RECs system. This could be on a transmission line, at a substation, or a main distribution line. After these have been repaired, the crews then work on remaining outage problems. Crews correct the trouble in areas that serve the greatest number of customers first and work until electricity is restored to each customers home.

In case of an outage call: 1-800-390-7605 or 1-319-824-5251

If Your Power is Off:

  •  Check your homes breaker panel (and any outdoor disconnects) to make sure the outage is not due to a tripped breaker.
  •  Call your neighbors to see if their power is off. This will help you determine if the problem exists within your home, or on our lines.
  •  If you determine the problem is outside your home, call Grundy County REC. Please have the following information available when you call: Account name, farm or location number, home phone, and cause of power outage (if you know it). Call any time your power is out. Do not assume that others have reported the outage. Crews will be out as soon as possible.

Extended Outages:

Catastrophes like ice storms and tornado's may cause extended outages. You can rest assure that Grundy County REC personnel will work as quickly as possible to restore your electrical service. To check on how many members are with out power and what counties in Iowa have major power outages just click on Power Outage Map

It is wise to be prepared for an extended outage. Keep flashlights and portable radios on hand with a supply of extra batteries. Keep freezer and refrigerator doors closed to prevent food spoilage. Food will keep for long periods if doors remain closed. Don't cook inside with charcoal. Be extra careful with candles, kerosene lamps, heaters, and fireplaces.

If you have a generator, check it twice a year to make sure it will work when you need it. Also check your double-throw switch to make sure it will open. If it does not work call an electrician to repair it.
