Top 5 Energy-Efficiency Improvements

Building trades professionals attending the recent Momentum Is Building conference had an opportunity to share their list of top-ranked energy-efficiency improvements.

Speaker Bill McAnally, Iowa Central Community College, asked attendees to fill out a survey with their top improvements.
 
With 199 responses, these improvements received the most votes from the pros:
  1. Insulation
  2. Geothermal heating and cooling
  3. Lighting, including CFLs and LEDs
  4. Ventilation, including heat recovery ventilation (HRV) and indoor air quality (IAQ)
  5. TIE: air infiltration; exfiltration; house wrap; AND efficient heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), including sizing and split systems
Momentum Is Building is an energy-efficient home building conference sponsored each year by Iowa’s electric cooperatives. Local building trades' professionals attend the two-day conference along with their REC representatives. The 2010 conference included training in subject matter areas such as Best Practices for Heat Pumps, Practical Plumbing for Energy Efficiency, Making Cents of Home Ratings, Ventilation for Builders, and more.
